Objectives:
Readers will be able to describe summary results of the review of 300+ clinical trials comparing newer antidepressants with older antidepressants and placebo in terms of response rates, dropouts and dropout for adverse effects.
Relevance: There is little question that all clinicians should know the recommended practice guidelines for the treatment of the most frequently diagnosed conditions in the mental health field. These are the more recent evidence-based updates to the original Depression Guidelines published by AHCPR in the late 1980s.
Description:
The ultimate purpose of this report is to help clinicians make informed choices about newer antidepressant drugs and herbal therapies, and to aid organizations developing clinical guidelines for the treatment of depression. The report provides a comprehensive evaluation of the benefits and adverse effects of newer pharmacotherapies and herbal treatments for depressive disorders in adults and children.
