Readers will be able to describe at least three characteristics of a comprehensive behavioral assessment
Readers will be able to describe how to conduct an antecedent analysis and a consequence analysis
Readers will be able to identify the critical features of an assessment that allow assessors to infer the meaning of challenging behavior(s) to the person engaging in them.
Relevance: All clinicians should be able to select the most appropriate treatment design for the individual and the problems presented. Without conducting a good assessment, inefficient and ineffective strategies may be implemented. Knowing the features of a good assessment, especially for those with the most challenging behaviors, will allow providers to select interventions more wisely and from a more 'person-centered; perspective.
Description:
The following article is an excellent description of a comprehensive behavioral assessment and of a functional analysis of behavior. While the population focus of the article is individuals with severely challenging behaviors who might be developmentally disabled, the concepts would be very useful to anyone conducting comprehensive assessments. Interestingly, assessments described in this article are defined as 'person-centered'.
